Toilet Paper Truth Scam
Prior to March 2020, a certain brand of toilet paper could be purchased at Walmart
for $14.97 for a package of 18 rolls.
Today (December 2024) the same type of package (18 “mega” rolls) of the same toilet paper cost $11.88. So what happened?
Did the pandemic cause toilet paper companies to decide to be nice to customers and cut the cost of the toilet paper?
Well, unfortunately not! It is actually a little more deceptive than that.
Lets take a look at what actually happened.
This package was purchased in 2019-2020 before the supposed “run” on toilet paper in the months of March and April,
we’ll call it “Pic 1.”
Notice carefully the writing on the package.
18 “mega” rolls
480+ sheets per mega roll
(484 to be exact)
968 square feet
Price: $14.97 ($0.83/roll)
Then followed several months of toilet paper shortage and empty shelves.
When the store finally begins to get toilet paper stocked in again, this is the product available - we’ll call this “Pic 2.”
When the store finally begins to get toilet paper stocked in again, this is the product available - we’ll call this “Pic 2.”
Again, notice carefully the writing
on the package.
18 “mega” rolls (but now deceptively advertised as “Our THICKEST Ever!)
425+ sheets per mega roll
(429 to be exact)
815.1 square feet
Price: $14.97 ($0.83/roll)
Fast forward to February 2022 - The price was decreased to $14.88 and then,
by June 2022, the price was down to $11.88. But the package had changed again.
Here is “Pic 3.”
Notice carefully the changes on this package.
18 “mega” rolls (but now the phrase
“Our THICKEST Ever!” is gone)
320 sheets per mega roll
(320 to be exact)
608 square feet
Price: $11.88 ($0.66/roll)
And a larger package is made available with the missing phrase “Our Thickest Mega Ever”
“Pic 4”
Notice this larger package.
24 “mega” rolls
(“Our Thickest Mega Ever”)
320 sheets per mega roll
(320 to be exact)
810.7 square feet
Price: $14.97 ($0.62/roll)
Then in 2024, it changed yet again
“Pic 5”
This package is the same size, but the
“Our Thickest Mega Ever” phrase is now gone and the cute baby face has been changed for an odd cartoon character.
24 “mega” rolls
320 sheets per mega roll
(320 to be exact)
810.7 square feet
Price: $15.46 ($0.64/roll)
Did you catch the difference? Perhaps it will be clearer in a table format.
“roll”=R “sheets”=S “square feet”=sf “ounces”=oz
In other words, using “Pic 1” as the standard, when the shelves were refilled in 2020 with what appeared on the surface to be the same 18 rolls of TP (Pic 2) - there were
actually 2.84 rolls of paper less in the package - yet the price was the exact same.
That means that the company just profited an extra $2.36 on each package by quietly removing some of the paper.
When they changed again in 2022 (Pic 3), their 18 rolls of paper were then missing
6.69 rolls of paper from the original Pic 1 standard.
This means that they profited an extra $5.55 on each package simply by quietly removing more paper - but, they then make the customer feel like they are getting a good deal, because they lower the price to $11.88
- yet even at that lower price, the company was still profiting an extra $2.46 on each package because of the “missing paper”.
In fact, the customer would actually have to buy the package of 24 rolls (Pic 4) at $14.97
in order to get closer to what they were buying for the same price previous to 2020
- and even then, they would still be 2.93 rolls of paper short and the company would be profiting an extra $2.43 on each package.
So how did the company pull off this slick trick?
By rolling the toilet paper more loosely!
The TP in Pic 1 is tightly rolled and heavier in weight.
Pic 2 is more loosely rolled and lighter in weight.
Pic 3,4,5 are very loose and much lighter in weight.
Think about that significance!
The difference between these two pictures is a whole 6.69 rolls!
Now don’t just think I’m picking on this particular brand, I’m not. This just happens to be the brand that I like and use, so it is the one that I happened to notice.
But this marketing trickery is not restricted to this brand - I believe it is being done
by ALL brands and by ALL companies.
For instance, it is being done by the food producing companies as well.
Notice the difference in size and weight of these boxes of cereal.
Here again, the store was selling the “10 servings” 21.6 oz box for $5.98 (.28/oz),
then there was about a month or so that the shelf was empty each time I went shopping.
When they finally got it back in stock, the box appeared on the surface to be the same and the price was the same - yet because I still had an old box at home, I was able to compare the two and discover that the new box was thinner.
It only has “8 servings” and weighs only 18.3 oz.
So they kept the price the same, but they removed about 3.3oz of cereal and that is
an extra profit of about $0.92/box that the company gains simply by subtly cutting down
the amount of cereal in the box.
But add that up - that would make up an whole extra $5.98 box they could sell, which
they gained from swiping a little from 5-6 other boxes of cereal.
Those profits would add up pretty rapidly!
I don’t think they expect any customers to figure out their tricks.
That just goes to show how easily people can be deceived into believing that they are getting what they thought they were getting - when in reality, they are not - they are being deceived and given something else.
It is the same on many fronts in the spiritual world.
Today, for example, people tend to put trust in their religious leaders and believe that their leaders are giving them the truth - yet Jesus specifically warned the last generation,
“...Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” (Matthew 24:4-5)
And the result of following all these teachings of men, is that there are countless
religions, denominations, and sects - all claiming to teach the truth - yet none of them
agree with one another.
One reason for some of this confusion is that many people sincerely believe that
they are getting the truth from their Bibles. But they don’t realize that modern Bibles
over the years, have been getting changed, little by little, to the point that they don’t say what they used to.
For example, the early pure-line Bibles and the heart of the Protestant Reformation, the Authorized King James Bible, states one thing:
Coverdale: Numbers 11:25 Then came the LORDE downe in a cloude, & spake vnto him, & toke of the sprete yt was vpon him, & put it vpon the seuentie Elders. And whan the sprete rested vpon them, they prophecied, and ceassed not.
Geneva: Numbers 11:25 Then the Lord came downe in a cloude, and spake vnto him, and tooke of the Spirit that was vpon him, and put it vpon the seuentie Ancient men: & when the Spirit rested vpon them, then they prophecied, and did not cease.
KJV: Numbers 11:25 And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
yet the modern Bible versions say something completely different.
Revised Version: Numbers 11:25 And the LORD came down in the cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and put it upon the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, but they did so no more.
NIV: Numbers 11:25 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took some of the power of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied—but did not do so again.
ESV: Numbers 11:25 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took some of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. And as soon as the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied. But they did not continue doing it.
GNB: Numbers 11:25 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to him. He took some of the spirit he had given to Moses and gave it to the seventy leaders. When the spirit came on them, they began to shout like prophets, but not for long.
NKJV: Numbers 11:25 Then the Lord came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and placed the same upon the seventy elders; and it happened, when the Spirit rested upon them, that they prophesied, although they never did so again.
NLT: Numbers 11:25 And the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. Then he gave the seventy elders the same Spirit that was upon Moses. And when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But this never happened again.
That is just one of thousands of examples.
Here is another example found in the OT prophecy about the nail marks in Christ’s hands.
Coverdale: Zechariah 13:6 And yff it be sayde vnto him: How came these woundes then in thine hondes? He shall answere: Thus am I wounded in the house off myne owne frendes.
Geneva: Zechariah 13:6 And one shal say vnto him, What are these woundes in thine hands? Then he shall answere, Thus was I wounded in the house of my friendes.
KJV: Zechariah 13:6 And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.
Revised Version: Zechariah 13:6 And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds between thine arms? Then he shall answer, Those with which
I was wounded in the house of my friends.
NIV: Zechariah 13:6 If someone asks, ‘What are these wounds on your body?’ they will answer, ‘The wounds I was given at the house of my friends.’
ESV: Zechariah 13:6 And if one asks him, 'What are these wounds on your back?' he will say, 'The wounds I received in the house of my friends.'
GNB: Zechariah 13:6 Then if someone asks him, 'What are those wounds on your chest?' he will answer, 'I got them at a friend's house.' "
NKJV: Zechariah 13:6 And one will say to him, 'What are these wounds between your arms?' Then he will answer, 'Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.'
NLT: Zechariah 13:6 And if someone asks, ‘Then what about those wounds on your chest? ’ he will say, ‘I was wounded at my friends’ house!’
In other words, when the devil can successfully infiltrate the Christian religion and counterfeit the Bible itself, and people falsely believe that it doesn’t matter what Bible version a person uses - it brings with it all kinds of confusion as to what is right or wrong and it fills the church with many false doctrines to blend with the true doctrines to lead many astray.
God’s people need to pay careful attention to the deceptions that are being foisted on the human race and faithfully take their stand on the Lord’s side - the side of Truth!
KJV: Ephesians 4:5,13 “One Lord, one faith, one baptism,...Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:”
