Fresh Air
Without food we can live for over a month, without water we can live for days, but without air we can live only for minutes.
Free, pure air...is of the richest blessings we can enjoy. (2T pg. 528)
Air was at the very beginning of man.
" And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul." Gen. 2:7
When living in or breathing fresh air, our organs and blood are more healthful, 1/3 of our body waste is eliminated, our thinking and mental efficiency is better, our nerves are calmed and there is an increased production of endorphins [happy hormones and natural pain killers].
"Devitalized air, most often found indoors, does not help our bodies eliminate toxins, and thus our bodies retain them. It causes unhealthful bood and body organs, anxiety and irratability, increased production of stress hormones and our judgement and memory are impaired." (God's Healing Way pg. 19)
We are told in Counsels on Health, Life in the open air is good for body and mind. It is God's medicine for the restoration of health.... From outdoor life men, women, and children gain a desire to be pure and guiless. (pg. 166,167)
It is also interesting to note that "work peformed in the open air is tenfold more beneficial to health thatn indoor labor." (Fundamentals of Education pg. 73)
Outdoor air has more negatively charged ions, which are good for us. (On the contrary, the increase of positive ions found in indoor air produces adverse effects such as headaches, nasal obstructions, fatigue, dizziness and hoarseness...Negatively cahrged air has been shown to actually decrease the blood pressure, lower the respiration rate and the resting heart rate and imprve learning in mammals. It also decreases the survival rate of bacteria and viruses in the air. (Proof Positive)
The beneficial effect of fresh versus stale air on sickness can be quite pronounced. During the 1919 flu epidemic, those housed outside due to overcrowding in hospitals had a zero mortality rate, as opposed to the peopl inside the hospital with the same disease. When they realized this and opened the windows and turned down the heat in the hospitals the death rate among those in the hospital decreased. (The Divine Prescription)
Here is a list of things you can do to breathe more fresh air.
1. Spend as much time as you can outside.
2. Don't overheat. Room temperatures should not exceed 68 degrees Farenheit.
3.Open your windows (Even in the winter)for some cross ventilation (This is one of the biggest blessings of a wood stove, you can do this without raising your power bill.) This is especially important in your sleeping rooms. If you can't do it all the time, air out your house at least once a day.
4. Install natural air filters-Houseplants. They'll clean your air for you. Live plants actually "eat" many toxic pollutants and freshen the air with oxegen. Placing at least one plant for every 100 sqare feet of indoor space is recommended
5. Practice good posture and breathe deeply. Reading a loud, singing and stair climbing increases the efficiency of the lungs. for better breathing concentrated less on inhalation and more on exhaltion. The more you exhale, the more air you can breathe in. (Dynamic Living and God's Healing Way)
