The 7 Times Curse (The 2520)
Powerpoint presentation with narration explaining some of the many aspects of the 2520, what it is, and how it applies to us today. It discusses this prophecy, that is not only illustrated throughout the Bible, but was also taught by William Miller, James White, Hiram Edson, and other Adventist pioneers.
Discover the "Commencement of the Chain of Truth" that is the connecting link of the time prophecies and the "Acted Parables" of Holy Scripture. (Like Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, and Mene Mene Tekel Upharsin)
There are many people today who are fighting against the 2520 prophecy (some other terms for this prophetic time period are 'the seven times', 'the fulness of time', 'the times of the Gentiles', and 'the fulness of the Gentiles'.
Note: The 2520 was a conditional prophecy of the chastening used to "break the pride" of those who rebelled against God. Much like a "rod of punishment" from a loving parent, its purpose is to "reform" God's people and bring them back to Him. It is found in Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28. It is also referred to by Daniel in chapter 9 verse 11.
Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Leviticus 26:18,19 And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:
Leviticus 26:23, 24 And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me; Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.
Leviticus 26:27,28 And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.
Deuteronomy 28:15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
Deuteronomy 28:36, 37 The LORD shall bring thee, and thy king which thou shalt set over thee, unto a nation which neither thou nor thy fathers have known; and there shalt thou serve other gods, wood and stone. And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all nations whither the LORD shall lead thee.
One accusation that is raised is that Ellen White does not refer to the 2520 so therefore it cannot be correct. But is this a correct accusation? No!
Sister White does refer to Leviticus 26 and its partner Deut. 28 as "prophecy" when she is quoting from it.
"God specified also the sure result of a disregard for His commands. “If ye will not hearken unto me,” He said, “and will not do all these commandments, ... I also will do this unto you: I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. And I will set my face against you; for ye shall be slain by your enemies. They that hate you shall reign over you, and ye shall flee when none pursueth you. And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins, and I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass, and your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.” “It shall come to pass if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and statutes, which I command you this day, that all these curses shall come unto thee, and overtake thee. Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field. Cursed shalt be thy basket and thy store. Cursed shall be the fruit of the body, and the fruit of the land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.” This is the result of disobedience and transgression. Let all read carefully the twenty-eighth chapter of Deuteronomy, realizing that it makes every difference to a people whether they are obedient or disobedient to the law of Jehovah. The prophecies regarding Israel were fulfilled to the letter. God permitted His chosen people to be scattered as captives in strange lands. When they repented, God took them to Himself again, and established them in His own land. But their continual disobedience resulted in their complete overthrow, and in the overthrow of Jerusalem." Ms40-1898
It is true that she does not talk about the 2520 by the name "2520" (just as there are other time prophecies that she also does not mention by name, such as the 1290 of Daniel 12:11), but she does refer
to the 2520 as you can see in the following quotes.
It should be noted that the 2520 is on the 1843 prophecy chart more than once, both in the top right hand corner, and shown in the center column running down the center of the chart from top to bottom. The 2520 and the 2300 are the only 2 time prophecies, on the prophetic chart, that reach to the year 1844.
It should also be noted that, of the time prophecies reaching to the Millerite time period, there are only 3 prophecies that cross the line between B.C. and A.D.
“I saw the people of God joyful in expectation, looking for their Lord. But God designed to prove them. His hand covered a mistake in the reckoning of the prophetic periods. Those who were looking for their Lord did not discover this mistake, and the most learned men who opposed the time also failed to see it. God designed that His people should meet with a disappointment. The time passed, and those who had looked with joyful expectation for their Saviour were sad and disheartened, while those who had not loved the appearing of Jesus, but embraced the message through fear, were pleased that He did not come at the time of expectation. Their profession had not affected the heart and purified the life. The passing of the time was well calculated to reveal such hearts. They were the first to turn and ridicule the sorrowful, disappointed ones who really loved the appearing of their Saviour. I saw the wisdom of God in proving His people and giving them a searching test to discover those who would shrink and turn back in the hour of trial. Jesus and all the heavenly host looked with sympathy and love upon those who had with sweet expectation longed to see Him whom their souls loved. Angels were hovering around them, to sustain them in the hour of their trial. Those who had neglected to receive the heavenly message were left in darkness, and God's anger was kindled against them, because they would not receive the light which He had sent them from heaven. Those faithful, disappointed ones, who could not understand why their Lord did not come, were not left in darkness. Again they were led to their Bibles to search the prophetic periods. The hand of the Lord was removed from the figures, and the mistake was explained. They saw that the prophetic periods reached to 1844, and that the same evidence which they had presented to show that the prophetic periods closed in 1843, proved that they would terminate in 1844. Light from the Word of God shone upon their position, and they discovered a tarrying time” EW 235
From this quote, we see that there was a mistake (singular) in the reckoning of the prophetic periods (plural), and that God put His hand over it in order to test His people. We also see that the men who opposed Miller’s message failed to discover it. This is interesting, because in Miller’s day there were several people claiming that the 2520 was not a real prophecy – but it says that they “failed to see” the mistake. We also see that God removed his hand and explained the mistake, prior to the great disappointment of Oct. 22 1844, and that this mistake was that they had not taken into account the "full year concept." That means, that the starting date for the prophecies didn't happen on Jan.1, it started later, in the fall of the year. This mistake only affected the ending date for the 2300 and the 2520. It did not have any bearing on the validity of the time prophecies. It only moved the ending dates forward into the next year (1844).
We also see something else. That nowhere does Sister White claim that the "mistake" was "on the chart". She said that the "mistake" was "in the reckoning of the prophetic periods." This is very important! If you look at the 1843 chart, you will notice that the Millerites were not unlearned and haphazard thinkers - their math adds up exactly right! The date "1843" shown on the chart is not a "mistake"!
1843 was the end of the 1335 time prophecy - the prophecy that specifically pronounces the "Blessing of God" on the Millerite movement. But because they didn't take into account the "full year concept" or the "tarrying time" - they thought the 1843 date was the end of the 2300 days.
In other words, the mistake was in the "reckoning" which arrived at the figures, not in the "chart" itself - which explains why Sister White specifically says,
“I have seen that the 1843 chart was directed by the hand of the Lord, and that it should not be altered; that the figures were as He wanted them; that His hand was over and hid a mistake in some of the figures, so that none could see it, until His hand was removed.” EW 74
From this quote, we see that the "mistake" was "in some of the figures" and that God Himself directed the making of the 1843 chart, and that the figures were as He wanted them. We also see another reference to this mistake (singular) in some of the figures (plural) that His hand covered for the purpose of testing His people.
“The Lord showed me that the 1843 chart was directed by his hand, and that no part of it should be altered; that the figures were as he wanted them. That his hand was over and hid a mistake in some of the figures, so that none could see it, until his hand was removed.” RH, November 1, 1850
Here again, God repeats this same thought – that He directed this chart, and that NO PART of this chart should be altered! The 2520 as well as the correct view of the “daily,” are both “PART” of this chart!
“I saw that the old chart was directed by the Lord, and that not a figure of it should be altered except by inspiration. I saw that the figures of the chart were as God would have them, and that His hand was over and hid a mistake in some of the figures, so that none should see it till His hand was removed.” SpM 1.3
Once more, we see this same information, repeated!
“Some prophecies God has repeated, thus showing that importance must be given to them. The Lord does not repeat things that are of no great consequence.”--Ms 107, 1897, pp. 1, 2
“The testimony of the prophecies which seemed to point to the coming of Christ in the spring of 1844 took deep hold of the minds of the people. As the message went from state to state, there was everywhere awakened widespread interest. Many were convinced that the arguments from the prophetic periods were correct, and, sacrificing their pride of opinion, they joyfully received the truth. Some ministers laid aside their sectarian views and feelings, left their salaries and their churches, and united in proclaiming the coming of Jesus. There were comparatively few ministers, however, who would accept this message; therefore it was largely committed to humble laymen.” GC 368
Here we see that she refers to prophecies (plural) and prophetic periods (plural) that point to the year 1844 – and we know that (of the prophecies shown on the chart) only the 2520 and the 2300 run to the year 1844. It also says that FEW ministers would accept this message, so it was largely carried by the lay people - is history repeating?
“Jesus did not come to the earth as the waiting, joyful company expected, to cleanse the sanctuary by purifying the earth by fire. I saw that they were correct in their reckoning of the prophetic periods; prophetic time closed in 1844, and Jesus entered the most holy place to cleanse the sanctuary at the ending of the days. Their mistake consisted in not understanding what the sanctuary was and the nature of its cleansing. As I looked again at the waiting, disappointed company, they appeared sad. They carefully examined the evidences of their faith and followed down through the reckoning of the prophetic periods, but could discover no mistake. The time had been fulfilled, but where was their Saviour? They had lost Him.” EW 243
I would like to again point out that she has stated that the mistake was explained – and this happened prior to the great disappointment of Oct. 22, 1844. And this is significant because, she was shown that the Millerites were “correct in their reckoning of the prophetic periods.” In other words, the 2520 was still considered a valid prophecy, after the mistake was explained. This is proven by the fact that 6 years later when the 1850 prophecy chart was made, the 2520 was still on it (both at the top running down the center column, and bottom of the chart).
“The warning has come: Nothing is to be allowed to come in that will disturb the foundation of the faith upon which we have been building ever since the message came in 1842, 1843, and 1844. I was in this message, and ever since I have been standing before the world, true to the light that God has given us. We do not propose to take our feet off the platform on which they were placed as day by day we sought the Lord with earnest prayer, seeking for light. Do you think that I could give up the light that God has given me? It is to be as the Rock of Ages. It has been guiding me ever since it was given.” RH, April 14, 1903
She considers the message that came in 1842 – 1844 the “foundation of the faith”!! This message contained the 2520 with its other prophecies. She also considers the truth gained after 1844 - the platform, and she says that we are not to propose or suggest that anyone should take their feet off of it.
Anyone who has built a house knows that you cannot take a piece out of the foundation, without weakening the support for the platform on top of it! Also notice that she says, “We do not propose”! This is important because this same quote has been used by opponents of this message to try to say that, “Ellen White says that they never took their feet off of the platform.” But this is not what she is saying here. A careful reading of this quote shows clearly that the word “propose” means “to suggest”.
There are opposite meanings between what she actually said, and what the enemies of this message say she said! And in light of the fact that several well-known pioneers actually did take their feet off of the platform and apostatize, a correct understanding of this quote is essential otherwise Ellen White lied and that would make her a false prophet!
“I do not wish to ignore or drop one link in the chain of evidence that was formed as, after the passing of the time in 1844, little companies of seekers after truth met together to study the Bible and to ask God for light and guidance. . . . The truth, point by point, was fastened in our minds so firmly that we could not doubt. . . .The evidence given in our early experience has the same force that it had then. The truth is the same as it ever has been, and not a pin or a pillar can be moved from the structure of truth. That which was sought for out of the Word in 1844, 1845, and 1846 remains the truth in every particular.” Letter 38, 1906, pp. 1, 2. (To the Wahroonga Sanitarium Family, January 23, 1906.) 1MR 52
Remember, the 2520 was still on the chart in 1850. She says that the message that they had in 1844-46 remains truth in EVERY particular!
I find it interesting that not only are some people bringing up the exact same arguments against the 2520, that Miller and his associates answered in their day, but that those who fight the 2520 are also (tongue in cheek) derogatory toward Miller, although they claim to support him.
But what did Ellen White have to say about Miller?
“God sent His angel to move upon the heart of a farmer who had not believed the Bible, to lead him to search the prophecies. Angels of God repeatedly visited that chosen one, to guide his mind and open to his understanding prophecies which had ever been dark to God's people. The commencement of the chain of truth was given to him, and he was led on to search for link after link, until he looked with wonder and admiration upon the Word of God. He saw there a perfect chain of truth. That Word, which he had regarded as uninspired, now opened before his vision in its beauty and glory. He saw that one portion of Scripture explains another, and when one passage was closed to his understanding, he found in another part of the Word that which explained it. He regarded the sacred Word of God with joy, and with the deepest respect and awe.” SR 356
Here she says that Miller was given the “commencement of the chain of truth,” and that “he was led on to search for link after link.” Exactly what was it that Miller found first – the 2520 or the 2300?
“I [Miller] began at Genesis, and read on slowly; and when I came to a text that I could could [sic] not understand, I searched through the Bible to find out what it meant. After I had gone through the Bible in this way, O, how bright and glorious the truth appeared! I found what I have been preaching to you. I was satisfied that the seven times terminated in 1843. Then I came to the 2300 days; they brought me to the same conclusion; but I had no thought of finding out when the Saviour was coming, and I could not believe it; but the light struck me so forcibly I did not know what to do. Now, I thought, I must put on spurs and breeching; I will not go faster than the Bible, and I will not fall behind it. Whatever the Bible teaches, I will hold on to it. But still there were some texts that I could not understand." The Second Advent Manual 65
In other words, if he began at Genesis and proceeded through the Bible – he would obviously come to Leviticus 26 long before he reached Daniel 8:14. In his own words it also says that he had come to a correct understanding of the 2520 – THEN – he came to the 2300 days.
This line of reasoning Ellen White says was “GIVEN” him! By whom? In the sentence before this statement she is talking about the angels who were visiting and guiding him!
Notice also that she refers to him as “that chosen one” and she says that angels were there guiding his mind. She also refers to God sending “His angel!” Who is that?
“It was Gabriel, the angel next in rank to the Son of God, who came with the divine message to Daniel. It was Gabriel, "His angel," whom Christ sent to open the future to the beloved John; and a blessing is pronounced on those who read and hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things written therein. Revelation 1:3.” DA 234
Do you realize the significance here? The only time Gabriel comes on the scene in the Bible – it is to present something that is extremely important. And Ellen White says that it was Gabriel that moved upon William Miller!
Question – Is it an intelligent thing for man to try to discredit a prophecy that was taught by someone who was guided by God’s angels, including Gabriel, the highest ranking angel in heaven? Is it a message from God, that tries to discredit not just the message but also the messenger, of the Millerite Movement? I don't believe so!
“Wm. Miller was disturbing Satan's kingdom, and the arch-enemy sought not only to counteract the effect of the message, but to destroy the messenger himself.” 4SP 219
Just how important was William Miller, according to Ellen White?
“His spirit was stirred within him. God called him to leave his farm, as He called Elisha to leave his oxen and the field of his labor to follow Elijah. With trembling, William Miller began to unfold to the people the mysteries of the kingdom of God, carrying his hearers down through the prophecies to the second advent of Christ. With every effort he gained strength. As John the Baptist heralded the first advent of Jesus and prepared the way for His coming, so William Miller and those who joined with him proclaimed the second advent of the Son of God.” EW 229
“As Elisha was called from following his oxen in the field, to receive the mantle of consecration to the prophetic office, so was Wm. Miller called to leave his plow, and open to the people the mysteries of the kingdom of God.” 4SP 208
“When the professed people of God are uniting with the world, living as they live, and joining with them in forbidden pleasure; when the luxury of the world becomes the luxury of the church; when the marriage bells are chiming, and all are looking forward to many years of worldly prosperity,--then, suddenly as the lightning flashes from the heavens, will come the end of their bright visions and delusive hopes. As God sent his servant to warn the world of the coming flood, so he sent chosen messengers to make known the nearness of the day of final judgment. But as Noah's contemporaries laughed to scorn the predictions of the solitary preacher of righteousness, so did many in Miller's day treat his words of warning.” 4SP 210
“It is the lot of God's servants to suffer opposition and reproach from their contemporaries. Now, as in the time of our Saviour, men build the sepulchers and sound the praises of the dead prophets, while they persecute the living messengers of the Most High. Wm. Miller was despised and hated by the ungodly and unbelieving; but his influence and his labors were a blessing to the world. Under his preaching, thousands of sinners were converted, backsliders were reclaimed, and multitudes were led to study the Scriptures and to find in them a beauty and glory before unknown.” 4SP 221
It seems very dangerous to me, for someone to speak lightly about someone that the prophet of God compares to so many other prophets!!
I find it fascinating that William Miller’s name shows his connection to his message.
The word “Miller” literally means “one who grinds wheat or grain” (into flour to make bread.)
Bread represents the Word of God. Wheat represents in one sense the righteous and in another sense, the Word of God. The wheat illustrates the individual pieces of the bread. This is showing “precept upon precept” – in other words, the Prooftext Method of Isaiah 28:10 – the very method used by William Miller.
The name “William” means “firm protector or determined guardian”.
So William Miller was the “firm protector” of the “Prooftext”, precept upon precept method, of Bible study.
I have tried to understand why Satan would want to try to discredit the 2520. Then it hit me.
Satan hates truth, he hates the Seventh-day Adventist church. He can’t blatantly attack something that is as well-known and understood as the 2300 days, because many would recognize his cunning deception immediately. But, because so many of our people have lost the knowledge of the 2520, that is one area of our foundation that he can attack and most people will go along with him.
And because of the connections between William Miller and the 2520 – by discrediting the 2520 – it automatically discredits William Miller. And because of the endorsements of William Miller by Ellen White, by discrediting Miller – he discredits Ellen White. And by discrediting Ellen White, he discredits the Seventh-day Adventist church.
Hence the dominos start to fall, and by the time Satan is finished, he will have destroyed the whole Seventh-day Adventist church. This is the natural result of removing “One” piece of our foundation!
“Truth must stand in its own order, linked only with truth. Unbelief disturbs the balance of the system of truth, and tends to destroy the whole. The mind that cherishes sentiments that tend to destroy the foundation of the faith that has made us what we are becomes confused, and cannot discern between truth and error. The truths that have been substantiated by the manifest working of God are to stand fast. Let no one presume to move a pin or foundation-stone from the structure. Those who attempt to undermine the pillars of our faith are among those of whom the Bible says that "in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils." Bible Training School, March 1, 1915
Now there are some churches, that have taken an official stand, on this issue (and others) and have decided to reject the validity of this 2520 prophecy. By denying that the 2520 is from God, they have, by default, attributed it to Satan! Therefore, we can expect to begin seeing the dominos start to fall in those churches.
It should also be noted what the connection is between the 2520 and the 70 weeks and the 2300 days.
“The experience of the disciples who preached the “gospel of the kingdom” at the first advent of Christ, has its counterpart in the experience of those who proclaimed the message of his second advent. As the disciples went out preaching, “The time is fulfilled, the kingdom of God is at hand,” so Miller and his associates proclaimed that the longest and last prophetic period brought to view in the Bible was about to expire, that the Judgment was at hand, and the everlasting kingdom was to be ushered in. The preaching of the disciples in regard to time was based on the seventy weeks of Daniel 9. The message given by Miller and his associates announced the termination of the 2300 days of Daniel 8:14, of which the seventy weeks form a part. The preaching of each was based upon the fulfillment of a different portion of the same great prophetic period.” GC 351
It is important to understand this quote also, because this same quote is used by the enemies of this message to try and say that, ”Ellen White says that the 2300 days is the longest time prophecy.” But here again, that is not what she is saying! Notice that both the disciples and Miller and his associates were preaching on DIFFERENT PORTIONS of the same GREAT PROPHETIC PERIOD. She has just listed the 2300 days as a PORTION of a GREAT PROPHETIC PERIOD. If the 2300 days is a “portion”, it cannot be the “whole”! The 70 weeks, and the 2300 days are both totally contained within the 2520, therefore they are only portions of that Longest time prophecy!
If you look at Daniel 8:13, it says, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?
The 2300 days given in Dan. 8:14 is describing the cleansing of the sanctuary itself, but it is not talking about the host. The restoring of the “host” is the subject of the 2520. Both time prophecies come to an end in 1844. At that point, not only did God begin the process of cleansing the sanctuary, but He also began the process of gathering back to the sanctuary, the host – His remnant people.
Therefore, to attack the validity of the 2520, is to attack the very reason and purpose of the 2300! Here again, take out the 2520 and the dominos begin falling - taking out one after another of the time prophecies.
It should be noted that in Daniel 9, Daniel recognizes and understands the 2520 curse, he even prays the wording of Lev. 26 and refers to the curse in Dan. 9:11. Then Gabriel comes and tells him that 70 weeks have been appointed for the probation of the literal Jewish nation – and we know from Dan. 8 that the 2300 days extend down into the period of the “spiritual” Jewish nation. We also know Dan. 8 – 12 is all connected and is descriptions of different portions of the same vision, and that this information is “sealed up” until the time of the end, which is 1798 and onward. Dan 9:24 “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.”
In other words, the literal 2520 curse does not come to an end until the final end of all these associated timelines and the vision and prophecy begins to be unsealed.
There are so many connections between the 7 weeks, the 70 weeks, the 1 week, the 2300 days, and Lev. 25 & 26, that it would be impossible to illustrate them all in this page.
Another connection that should be pointed out is what the 2520 is all about. In Lev. 25 & 26 God is telling the Israelites the blessings that He will bestow on them if they follow and obey His commandments, statutes, and judgments. Then He tells them the 2520 curse – what will rest on them if they reject Him and break His commandments, statutes, and judgments. Beginning in 723 and 677 B.C. and reaching down to 1798 and 1844, you have the literal fulfillment of this prophetic curse. What was the cause of this curse? Even though God had warned them of this curse, Israel rejected this warning. Study the record carefully. Israel didn’t believe that this curse was real! They fulfilled the curse because they rejected the validity of the curse!
Remember that first comes the literal – then comes the spiritual!
By many of our leaders rejecting the validity of the 2520 curse, we, as spiritual Israel, have put ourselves into the position of the "spiritual" fulfillment of the 2520 curse. Notice in Lev. 26 that this curse comes to its end with the destruction of the world at the 2nd coming of Christ and the 1000 year Sabbath.
This is vitally important to understand! Rejection of the validity of the 2520 is truly a salvational matter, not because it is a “test question” (like the enemies of this message like to term it), but because rebelling against and rejecting the validity of it, insures that a person will take the wrong side of the issue, will not understand the significance of what it means to them, will fail to pass that test and will ultimately reject the same God who gave it.
The "literal" application of the 2520 "time prophecy" ended in 1844, but the "spiritual" application, the test over whether we are going to take God at His Word or take man's word over God's, applies to each and every person on planet earth! The 2520 is the "curse" process that becomes a "blessing" if the person passes the test!
God puts each person through this process - in order to "break the pride of their power" (Lev. 26:19) - without this "humbling" process, man will be lost!
God is calling His people back to His commandments, statutes, and judgments. We need to be very careful that we listen to Him and do not bring the 2520 "curse" upon ourselves, by placing our trust in man's word.
Now having said that, I do want to point out that we are not to be trying to "literally" keep the feasts, the ceremonies, and the sacrifices that are found in the ceremonial law. These were shadows of things to come, and their literal observance came to an end at the time period of the cross, the same as literal Israel. But to us now (spiritual Israel), they have a spiritual fulfillment. We are to be understanding their spiritual application. Just like circumcision is no longer required "literally," now we understand that it is the "spiritual" circumcision of the heart that applies to us.
But there are statutes and judgments that are not shadows and types, and these are to be restored to their rightful place. This is what Mal. 4:4 is all about! This is one of the main points of the 2520 – to bring people back to the law!
Did you ever play the game "Simon Says" when you were a kid? Whenever the leader said "Simon Says" something, you were supposed to copy it. Example: "Simon says scratch your ear." "Simon says close your eyes." "Simon says scratch your head." "Scratch your nose." - If you just scratched your nose - then you are out of the game - you failed! Why? Because you followed the example of the leader but Simon didn't say that! If you followed the example of the leader without listening for the phrase "Simon Says" - then you failed the test, and lost the game.
Here we have the same situation. The Word of God says "seven times". The 1843 chart says "seven times" & "2520". The Spirit of Prophecy says that this chart was directed by the hand of the Lord. It says that the figures were as He wanted them. It says that "not a figure of it should be altered except by inspiration."
But then several years later, after the charts were made, an article (falsely attributed to James White) denying the 2520 appears in the Review & Herald - and lo, today the majority of our people follow the example of that article - instead of listening for the phrase "God says!" In doing this, they place the uninspired words of a Review and Herald article above the inspiration of both the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy - and they fail the test!
It is impossible to attempt to "discredit" the 2520 from the King James Bible! If a person follows Sister White's advice, and takes the Bible "as it reads" - they will find the 2520 interwoven throughout the whole Bible. The only way anyone can supposedly "discredit" the 2520, is to resort to the works of some man somewhere, some scholar, some theologian, some man-made dictionary or encyclopedia. It is all about God's Word vs. Man's word!
I find it interesting that after this anti-2520 article was printed, James White wrote that there were people putting in articles in his name that were not from him, and he specified that only if the article was signed "JW" was it written by him. Years later, in 1875, James White published a book on William Miller and was still promoting the 2520 prophecy - proving that it was not him that wrote the anti-2520 article!
In this article denying the 2520, whoever the author was, resorts to using the corrupted Septuagint manuscript. The same corrupt manuscript that scholars today are using to try and deny the 2520. This is also the same manuscript that originated by mixing the truth of the Hebrew scriptures with the Greek error, higher criticism, of Alexandria Egypt. This gives us a glimpse of where the war against the 2520 originated from, and who is its mastermind!
Another interesting thought - I could find nowhere in the writings of sister White, where she resorted to any reference of the corrupted Septuagint! Yet she clearly warned us that Leviticus 26 was for us here at the end of the world!
"Please read the twenty-sixth chapter of Leviticus. This chapter is written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. I would have our people review the past carefully, step by step, not with a spirit of self-justification, but with a spirit of fear because of their own hardness and stubbornness of heart." Lt34-1899
The Bible refers to the 2520 in hundreds of places, which can easily be understood when the principles of the 2520 are correctly understood. But it specifically names it in several places by its specific terms.
Daniel 4:25 That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
Ephesians 1:9-10 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Revelation 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
Even Christ Himself referred to the 2520.
Luke 21:24 "And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled."
Here are some other quotes that are pertinent to this topic of rejecting the 2520:
“Grave doctors of divinity sneered at Wm. Miller as an unlearned and feeble adversary. Because he explained the visions of Daniel and John, he was denounced as a man of fanciful ideas, who made visions and dreams his hobby. The plainest statements of Bible facts, which could not be controverted, were met with the cry of heresy, ignorance, stupidity, insolence…When Luther was accused of preaching novelties, he declared: "These are not novelties that I preach…When Wm. Miller was charged with showing contempt for the doctors of divinity, he pointed to the word of God as the standard by which all doctrines and theories must be tested; and, knowing that he had truth on his side, he went forward in his work undismayed.” 4SP 212
"Mark also how far they have departed from the teachings of Christ in other respects. Christ forbade his people to seek after the treasures of this world. But the popular church, as a body, exhibits greater eagerness for wealth than do worldlings themselves. In how many churches does mammon bear rule! Christ says, "Be not ye called Rabbi," that is, master, or doctor; "for one is your Master, even Christ." To do this is to partake of the same spirit which has lead aspiring men to assume to be the head of the church, the successor of St. Peter, the vicegerent of Christ, and a god upon earth. Yet how many in the Protestant church, in imitation of the Romish, adopt the title of "Reverend," which in our version of the Scriptures is applied to God alone: "Holy and reverend is his name." But not content with this, some become "Very Reverend," and "Right Reverend," and "Doctors of Divinity." 1897 Daniel and Revelation by Uriah Smith p.653
“Time, means, and talents were employed in misrepresenting and maligning Adventists, in exciting prejudice against them, and holding them up to public contempt. Ministers occupied themselves in gathering up damaging reports, absurd and malicious fabrications, and dealing them out from the pulpit. Earnest were the efforts put forth to draw away the minds of the people from the subject of the second advent. But in seeking to crush out Adventism, the popular ministry undermined faith in the word of God.” 4SP 219
“After the truth has been proclaimed as a witness to all nations, every conceivable power of evil will be set in operation, and minds will be confused by many voices crying, "Lo, here is Christ, Lo, he is there. This is the truth, I have the message from God, he has sent me with great light." Then there will be a removing of the landmarks, and an attempt to tear down the pillars of our faith.” RH, December 13, 1892
“Men can become just as were the Pharisees--wide-awake to condemn the greatest teacher that the world ever knew. Christ gave unmistakable evidence that He was sent of God, yet the Jewish rulers took upon themselves the work the enemy prompted them to do, and charged Him who made the Sabbath, who was the Lord of the Sabbath, with being a Sabbath breaker. Oh, the foolishness of men! the weakness of men! There are those who are today doing the very same things. In their counsels they venture to pronounce judgment upon the work of God; for they have become trained in doing that which the Lord has never required them to do. They would better humble their own hearts before God, and keep their hands off the ark of God, lest the wrath of God shall break forth upon them; for if God has ever spoken by me, I testify that they have undertaken a work in criticizing and pronouncing unsound judgment which I know is not right. They are but finite men and, being befogged themselves, suppose that other men are in error. But these men who presume to judge others should take a little broader view and say, Suppose the statements of others do not agree with our ideas; shall we for this pronounce them heresy? Shall we, uninspired men, take the responsibility of placing our stakes, and saying, This shall not appear in print?” TM 294
“The Jews tried to stop the proclamation of the message that had been predicted in the word of God; but prophecy must be fulfilled. The Lord says, "Behold, I send you Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord." Somebody is to come in the spirit and power of Elijah, and when he appears, men may say, "You are too earnest, you do not interpret the Scriptures in the proper way. Let me tell you how to teach your message." RH, February 18, 1890
“There is to be in the churches a wonderful manifestation of the power of God, but it will not move upon those who have not humbled themselves before the Lord, and opened the door of the heart by confession and repentance. In the manifestation of that power which lightens the earth with the glory of God, they will see only something which in their blindness they think dangerous, something which will arouse their fears, and they will brace themselves to resist it. Because the Lord does not work according to their ideas and expectations, they will oppose the work. "Why," they say, "should not we know the Spirit of God, when we have been in the work so many years?" RH, December 23, 1890
"The angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life." We see here that the men in authority are not always to be obeyed, even though they may profess to be teachers of Bible doctrine. There are many today who feel indignant and aggrieved that any voice should be raised presenting ideas that differ from their own in regard to points of religious belief. Have they not long advocated their ideas as truth? So the priests and rabbis reasoned in apostolic days: What mean these men who are unlearned, some of them mere fishermen, who are presenting ideas contrary to the doctrines which the learned priests and rulers are teaching the people? They have no right to meddle with the fundamental principles of our faith.
But we see that the God of heaven sometimes commissions men to teach that which is regarded as contrary to the established doctrines. Because those who were once the depositaries of truth became unfaithful to their sacred trust, the Lord chose others who would receive the bright beams of the Sun of Righteousness, and would advocate truths that were not in accordance with the ideas of the religious leaders. And then these leaders, in the blindness of their minds, give full sway to what is supposed to be righteous indignation against the ones who have set aside cherished fables. They act like men who have lost their reason. They do not consider the possibility that they themselves have not rightly understood the word. They will not open their eyes to discern the fact that they have misinterpreted and misapplied the Scriptures, and have built up false theories, calling them fundamental doctrines of the faith. But the Holy Spirit will, from time to time, reveal the truth through its own chosen agencies; and no man, not even a priest or ruler, has a right to say, You shall not give publicity to your opinions, because I do not believe them. That wonderful "I" may attempt to put down the Holy Spirit's teaching. Men may for a time attempt to smother it and kill it; but that will not make error truth, or truth error. The inventive minds of men have advanced speculative opinions in various lines, and when the Holy Spirit lets light shine into human minds, it does not respect every point of man's application of the word. God impressed His servants to speak the truth irrespective of what men had taken for granted as truth.
Present Dangers
Even Seventh-day Adventists are in danger of closing their eyes to truth as it is in Jesus, because it contradicts something which they have taken for granted as truth but which the Holy Spirit teaches is not truth. Let all be very modest, and seek most earnestly to put self out of the question, and to exalt Jesus. In most of the religious controversies the foundation of the trouble is that self is striving for the supremacy. About what? About matters which are not vital points at all, and which are regarded as such only because men have given importance to them. (See Matthew 12:31-37; Mark 14:56; Luke 5:21; Matthew 9:3.) But let us follow the history of the men whom the Jewish priests and rulers thought so dangerous, because they were bringing in new and strange teaching on almost every theological subject.” TM 69,70
“But there are many classes of religious teachers who seem to be determined to close every avenue whereby fresh rays of light from heaven may come to the people. They would bind the members of their churches by certain rules and regulations that forbid them to go to other places of worship, or listen to messengers outside of a certain class of teachers. In this way men and women are led to give up the liberty that God has ordained for them, and they fail to improve the mind and gather up the divine rays of light which emanate from sources outside their own church.” ST, August 27, 1894
“It is a grievous sin in the sight of God for men to place themselves between the people and the message that He would have come to them as some of our brethren are now doing. There are some who, like the Jews, are doing their utmost to make the message of God of none effect. Let these doubting, questioning ones either receive the light of the truth for this time, or let them stand out of the way, that others may have an opportunity of receiving the truth, that the wrath of God may not come on them because they are bodies of darkness, when He desires them to be bodies of light.
Those That Seek for a Sign Will Be Deceived as Were the Jews--Those who live just prior to the second appearing of Christ may expect a large measure of His Holy Spirit. If God has ever spoken by me, some of our leading men are going over the same ground of refusing the message of mercy as the Jews did in the time of Christ. If they turn away from the light, they will fail to meet the high and holy claims of God for this important time. They will fail to fulfill the sacred responsibility that He has entrusted to them.
The character and prospects of the people of God are similar to those of the Jews, who could not enter in because of unbelief. Self-sufficiency, self-importance, and spiritual pride separated them from God, and He hid His face from them. . . . The Jews despised the good that was proffered them in the time of Christ, and after the long forbearance of God, the things that were for their peace were hidden from their eyes--that which, if received, would have been to them their greatest blessing became their stumbling block. Thus it is today among us. . .The light of truth is shining upon us as clearly as it shone upon the Jewish people, but the hearts of men are as hard and unimpressible as in the days of Christ, because they know not what they oppose. Many who claim to be standing in the light are in darkness, and know it not. They have so enshrouded themselves in unbelief that they call darkness light, and light darkness. They are ignorant of that which they condemn and oppose. But their ignorance is not such as God will excuse, for He has given them light, and they reject it. They have before them the example of the past, but they will not be warned, and unbelief is enclosing them in impenetrable darkness. They refuse to accept the testimonies they ought to believe, and are ready to accept tidbits of gossip and testimonies of men, showing their credulousness and readiness to believe that which they want to believe. There is an alarming condition of things in our churches. Says the Word of God, "Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you. For among My people are found wicked men: they lay in wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men. . . the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and My people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?" (Jeremiah 5:25, 26, 31). "They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of My people slightly, saying, Peace, Peace; when there is no peace" (chapter 6:14). "And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the Lord, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not; therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by My name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh, And I will cast you out of My sight, as I have cast out all your brethren" (chapter 7:13-15). God will surely fulfill His word to those who will not hear, will not see, and refuse the light that He sends them.
Those Who Should Have Been Promoting the Message Found Resisting It--The very men who ought to be on the alert to see what the people of God need, that the way of the Lord may be prepared, are intercepting the light God would have come to His people, and rejecting the message of His healing grace. Brethren, I beseech you to come into harmony with the work of God for this time. . . . God wants to put His Spirit upon you, but He cannot do this while you are so full of self. When self dies, you will feel the quickening influence of the Spirit of God. God's people are enjoined to seek for unity, that they may be framed together into an holy temple for the Lord. "Ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building" (1 Corinthians 3:9). . . You will never have any greater evidence than you have had as to where the Spirit of God is working. You will never have any greater evidence than you have had as to where the Spirit of God is working. The Lord never proposes to remove all occasion for men to doubt. He will give sufficient evidence to bring the candid mind to a right decision; but if you are determined to have your own way, if you are like Saul, unwilling to change your course because of pride and stubbornness of heart, because of ignorance of your own condition of spiritual destitution, you will not recognize the light. You will say with Saul, "I have performed the commandment of the Lord" (1 Samuel 15:13). . . . 11MR 286-288
“Many who enter the work of the ministry as teachers of the word of God, are naturally skeptics. The very truth they preach is not free from uncertainties. They will never be rooted and grounded in the truth--they will never have any but a wavering and imperfect faith--until they throw away their unbelief, and accept the Bible as God's inspired word. There are professed Christians who read the Bible without a fine perception of the gems they are handling. There are portions of Scripture that they are not sure are inspired, and they think that in God's word there are errors and human reasoning. With the lamp of life in their very hands, they stumble. They interpret the Scriptures to suit themselves; they cannot appreciate the wisdom of God, and their own human wisdom is the light that guides them.” BEcho, August 26, 1895
“We must not be discouraged if there are only a few that believe the present truth. It is not the great numbers that follow Christ. In answer to the question, "Are there few that be saved?" The reply was, "Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able." Luke 13:24. "Strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." Matthew 7:14. Now we see only a few who regard the commandments of God, and those who will not lift the cross after having a knowledge of their duty will finally meet their destruction. We should not turn to the right or to the left, for if we do we shall find a dish of fables in place of truth. The whole world perished in the Flood. Only three were saved at the destruction of Sodom, but they had the warning. We must not follow the majority, for if we do so we shall not see heaven.” 3MR 91.1
“Sometimes the case seems hopeless to me, because you have been treading in the very footsteps of the Jewish nation. You are repeating their history. The whole heavenly universe is astonished at the spiritual condition of things at Battle Creek. Now and then there is a comfortable, easy feeling, but this is not the deep moving of the Spirit of God. All heaven sees that if you had a more correct experimental knowledge of the truth, you would never assume jurisdiction and command over your fellow-men as you have done. You would never think that you could take control of the great interests all over the field, nigh and afar off. It is because of a departure from God that such gross ignorance in regard to the management of his work has come in.” 1888 Materials 1631
“The priesthood had become so corrupt that the priests had no scruples in engaging in the most dishonest and criminal acts to accomplish their designs. Those who assumed the office of high priest prior to, and at, the time of Christ's first advent, were not men divinely appointed to the sacred work. They had eagerly aspired to the office through love of power and show. They desired a position where they could have authority, and practice fraud under a garb of piety, and thereby escape detection.” RH, December 17, 1872
“But New Testament history presents many instances which show that the same sins which brought the wrath of God upon his people anciently will bring his wrath upon his church today.” ST, May 5, 1881
